UNIT 1:  Facilitation Basics

Trainers are often thrown into their responsibilities with little to no knowledge of how to train at all.  They may know the technical aspects very well or be an expert on the tasks they are training, but they often lack knowledge of what training actually looks like, or what approaches to take.  This unit lays out the basics, covering differences in terminology and simple best practices.

UNIT 2:  Adult Learning Styles

Everyone has different preferred learning styles.  One of the major problems with training is that it often is treated as a one-size-fits-all program instead of focusing on the individual.  This unit explores different adult learning styles through several prominent studies, and delves into the best way to approach learners with these different preferences.

UNIT 3:  Training People Different Than You

Another common mistake in training is that trainers do not or cannot relate to the learners.  Generational differences, educational differences, and many other differences play a factor in this, but all trainers must be able to work through these differences and connect with the learner.  This unit looks into coaching methods, motivations, and focuses on how to meet the learner instead of forcing the learner to adapt to the trainer.

UNIT 4:  Learner Focused Versus Trainer Focused

Learner focused training is very different from trainer focused training.  Both of these methods have their place to be used, but too often trainers focus only on the latter option.  This unit looks into these two styles, and what they both mean, as well as how to be an effective trainer with each style.

UNIT 5:  Encouraging Participant Engagement

One of the biggest challenges with any training is keeping the focus and attention of the learners.  The whole point of a training is so that the learners can retain the new information, and that cannot happen if they are not engaged.  This unit focuses on best practices and tips on how to engage the learners in any type of training.
