Organizational (Behavioral) Drift can be defined as the “progressive deviation between what’s expected (work-as-imagined) and the actual performance (work-as-done)”, often in the direction of greater risk.  Many times, the contributors to this drift are things such as the workers feeling pressure to trade production for complying with rules, not having a solid understanding of risks or hazards, and the procedures and processes are out of date or irrelevant to the work.  No matter what the cause of this drift, we should work to identify it, and to steer it back to the safest or best practices.

Leadership typically bears the brunt of creating the environment that helps the worker both: understand the expectations, and also to understand when any deviation from these standards can cause a safety or reliability issue.  There are several schools of thought to address the issues that come from organizational drift – processes and procedure enhancements, observations and coaching, cultural change - and in this webcast, we’ll look to equip you with ways that are not only effective,  but will efficiently allow your teams to avoid the traps associated with organizational drift.
